Osaka Statistics
As previously mentioned it is surprising that Osaka is the second most influencial prefecture/city, yet is the second smallest prefecture in Japan, with the third largest population of 8,860,000 in 2013. The Osaka-Kobe metropolitan area is a larger than the Osaka Prefecture, in fact it is made up of the Osaka Prefecture and the city of Kobe and its metropolitan area, and has the population of 11,268,000 (2005 est.) Currently the population of just the Osaka prefecture is above 10 (around 10.7) million so the city is considered a megacity. The GDP of the city as recorded in 2013 was 36.6000 trillion yen ($297 billion) for the land area which was about 1901 km2.
Economic Indicators
Some more in depth economic indicators of Osaka include the annual commercial sales which earned the city about 600 million yen ($4,958,677), annual wholesale commercial sales which earned the city about 520 million yen ($4,297,520), annual retail sales which earned the city about 96 million yen ($793,388), in 2007. Also the number of businesses was 107,650 with 913,217 employees, also in 2007.
